Our Vision
We are a church that seeks to see:
“lives transformed for the good of the city and the Glory of God“
LIVES TRANSFORMED
Life transformation is not behavior modification, morality, religious good deeds, or church attendance, it is a child of God being brought from death to life; from the darkness to the light; from a “son of disobediance“ to a son of God; from a heart of stone to a heart of flesh; from “sinful from my mother’s womb“ to a life “hidden with Christ“.
Church goers in the South, it would seem, have been (as Matt Chandler has said) “innoculated with enough of Jesus not to catch the whole of Him“. We have a generation of church attenders who, week upon week, leave completely unchanged or, at best, leave with a few moral principles to live by. In addition, there is an emerging generation in Fort Worth that knows nothing of the Gospel at all. It is not a “win“ just to have “butts in seats“; our mission must be to see the lives of our neighbors, friends, co-workers, and families transformed by the glorious Gospel.
FOR THE GOOD OF THE CITY
The church used to be a beacon of light for a city. The church steeple was usually the highest point in the city symbolizing what was preeminent and supreme to its citizens. The church (not a building) should seek to still be this light, seeking the shalom of the city we have been sent to (Jer 29).
“Once in cities, Christians should be a dynamic counterculture. It is not enough for Christians to simply live as individuals in the city. They must live as a particular kind of community. Jesus told his disciples that they were “a city on a hill” that showed God’s glory to the world (Matt. 5:14-16). Christians are called to be an alternative city within every earthly city, and alternate human culture within every human culture, to show how sex, money, and power can be used in nondestructive ways.” – Tim Keller
FOR THE GLORY OF GOD
It is not about you. Our mission is not to make much of ourselves but to make much of God. The paradox of the Christian faith is that by making much of (glorifying) God we share in His glory; by humbling ourselves we are exalted; that by “taking up our cross daily” we receive the “crown of life”.
“My joy grows with every soul that seeks the glory of God. Remember, you have one life. That’s all. You were made for God. Don’t waste it. He is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in him…savor the beauty and value of God. “ – John Piper
