The Paradox Church

City Renewal

The church is to be light—“a city on a hill” (Matt 5:14). As light we are to “expose” (Eph 5:11-13), or push back darkness, transforming it, renewing it by the power of the Gospel. Ultimately, our power is in Jesus—the Head of the Church (Col 1:18)—who is light that has come into the darkness, “and the darkness shall not overcome [Him]” (John 1:5).

Our hope is that we would be known by our radical justice for the oppressed and compassion for the poor that flows from our deep understanding of who Jesus is and what he has done for us. Jesus went out of his way a lot. He let a prostitute wash his feet with her hair, he touched lepers, he welcomed tax-collectors. Showing compassion to the poor shows a watching world what God is like. He takes what is broken and redeems it, He meets people where they are at and calls them out of darkness into light.

As a church we partner mainly with three organizations :: The Net, Fort Worth Pregnancy Center, and KidsHope. Our culture has taught us that serving the poor is about meeting their material needs, but in fact much of what the poor really needs are healthy, on-going, consistent relationships with committed Christ-followers. Through any of these organizations you can serve in the city by meeting people’s emotional, social, and relational needs.
