Push Back Darkness – Congregational Prayer (November)

On the first Sunday of each month we pray, as a family, for a particular aspect of the mission that God has called us to and for the people God is forming us into, by His grace. Then, throughout the month we commit to continual prayer on that particular topic. This month our prayer is that we would be a people who push back darkness.

"In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness have not overcome it." John 1:4-5

"At one time you were in darkness, but now are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light... Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them... When anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible, for anything that becomes visible is light." Ephesians 5:8, 11, 13-14

Our prayer today is that the light of the Gospel of Jesus would shine through us pushing back the darkness in and around us. That:

We would be an army not an audience: Not blind or indifferent to the darkness around us but an army of Jesus’ people sacrificing comforts and laying down preferences that we might push back darkness in our relationships, schools, workplaces, neighborhoods, cities, and the world.

We would fight against darkness with the light of Jesus: Against the darkness of sin, that it might be put to death; shame, that it might be removed; broken relationships and marriages, that they might be reconciled; strongholds, that people might be freed.

We would fight for those in darkness: For the single mom, the battered wife, the abused, the abandoned, the fatherless, the addicted, the unborn, the racially oppressed, the refugee, the impoverished, and the needy.

Please begin to pray for these things now asking God to save many as we proclaim and display the good news of Jesus.View our Congregational Prayer for October, Make Disciples, Multiply Disciples.
